Comcast Quil

Product Design Lead
May – September 2022

Led a team of 6 product designers on a 5 month engagement with Quil Health, a joint venture between Independence Health Group and Comcast. We created a new app concept from the ground up including design thinking sessions, white boarding, wire framing, design system creation, branding, high fidelity designs and dev handoff. The app worked in along with connected device sensors placed inside a users home. The app has now gone through multiple releases and has been well received.

Product Snapshot and Process

Quil is a digital health platform that offers personalized and interactive health journeys to Caregivers and Seniors.

Phase 1

We used user research to create personas and detailed user journeys from initial stories. We developed and tested 9 concepts with caregivers and recipients, resulting in three journey maps. A cohort of 40 users was maintained for continuous testing and refinement throughout our partnership.

Phase 2

We took vision from phase 1 and started bringing it to life. This entailed prioritizing and refining the user stories, creating the product flow and prototyping wireframes for further user testing. In tandem, the technical architecture and dev ops were being developed with visual look of the application.

Phase 3

After the refining the chosen design concept and working alongside developers to build it, we launched beta testing efforts with our participants and created material to assist in product launch and initial adoption by users.  In September we launched MVP of the service publicly on the app store.

The Ask

How might we break into the market of "casual" elder care that makes caring for your loved ones much more accessible by leveraging existing technology?

Caregivers

I want to be able to monitor my loved ones so that I am able to ensure their safety and health.

Care Recipients

I want to be able to access and receive support from my friends and family.

Home

Users can quickly check in with their care recipient right from their dashboard

Caregivers can monitor their recipients’ overall wellbeing, manage any upcoming tasks assigned to them and view alerts.

Care recipients also have their own version of the app where they can track their own health, view their care circle and check in when their caregivers when needed.

Tasks

Caregivers can view and manage their respective assigned tasks

A shared calendar view amongst the care circle allows users to view what they need to get done for their care recipient. They can manage their tasks by updating their status, creating new tasks, adding notes and assigning them out to others in their care circle.

Insights

Use connected devices to help better understand the health and patterns of care recipients.

Caregivers can view high-level insights generated by Quil related to the wellbeing and environment of their care recipients. Insights are organized into categories and are easily filtered. Users can tap into view details around each insight. They can also view an overarching dashboard that allows users to see an overview of each health category such as Exercise Time.

Recipients can also use this feature on their version on the app to track their overall wellbeing and environment in order to better their own health and share updates with their circle.

Check-Ins

Schedule and log check-ins with care recipients through the app. Users can log any topics, themes or concerns on the shared platform

All members of the care circle can use this feature to check in with their care recipients. This allows users to share the responsibility of logging notes and updating conversation topics related to insights, appointment and overall wellbeing related topics.

Devices

Quil incorporates smart sensors such as Apple Watch, Alexa, Door detectors, smart sensors, panic buttons to keep recipients safe.

An ecosystem of connected devices can be utilized to enhance the overall care experience. Within the onboarding flow, users are guided to set up devices in a simple way. Quil also streamlines set-up by offering a starter kit to their users.

Within the app the devices are used to create helpful insights. Users can monitor all their devices and sensors, easily checking their status and connect new ones in one place.
